Project Description
The Parsons Avenue Streetscape Project completes a missing link in the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) plan to improve I-70/71 through Columbus. It is the complete reconstruction of 0.16 miles of Parsons Avenue, from Franklin Avenue to Broad Street, in the historic Olde Towne East neighborhood of Columbus. The fully reconstructed roadway provides a smooth ride with upgraded pedestrian crossings and curb bump-outs to reduce pedestrian street crossing distances. The design also included a southbound bike lane to the historic urban corridor that complements a future northbound bike lane in ODOT’s project.
Project Features
- Environmentally friendly Flexi-Pave permeable tree surrounds were installed instead of traditional tree grates
- Silva-Cells, a modular suspended soil system, was used under the sidewalks to create a looser soil mix and better growth environment for the street tree roots
- Permeable brick pavers were placed in parking bays to collect stormwater
